Leadership for service (L4S) is HOBY’s national community service program, advocating that every young person can make a difference in their community through service. By engaging in community service, young leaders can develop a further understanding of leadership and create a positive change in their home towns. Young leaders who participate in L4S help spread awareness that each individual can have an impact, and that every act of service is significant. Additionally, by participating in serve events these young leaders develop a greater awareness, and enhance their problem solving abilities.
“Each year we challenge all alumni to put their leadership skills into action through service in which they donate their time and energy to help make their communities a better place to live,” said Javier LaFianza. “Every community needs young volunteers who pitch in and help out. It can be joining a graffiti paint-out in a neighborhood park, organizing a food drive in a high school gym, or yard clean-up at a senior citizens home. All of these efforts help improve the lives of others. Volunteers bring us closer together as families, as neighbors, as communities, and as a nation. We are proud to see our alumni honored, once again, with so many Presidential Volunteer Service Awards.
Students can register their hours of service through the HOBY national website (Click Here), and certify their progress. By completing 100 hours of community service within a year of their regional or state seminar, they are recognized and awarded with the following:
Certificate of Recognition from HOBY International

The President’s Volunteer Service Award and congratulatory letters from the President of the United States and the Chair and Honorary Co-Chairs of the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation
